Ironman triathlons to allow refunds, deferrals, or transfers

Ironman branded events do not allow any refunds, deferrals, nor transfers.  None, nada, zero.  

We the undersigned are requesting Ironman to allow 80% of the entry money to be either refunded, applied to next year or another Ironman event, or transferred to another athlete, in instances of injury from accidents, military deployment, and hospitalization or death of a family member.

We understand long course events require a commitment, and there are rules.  Yet many smaller events are more customer friendly and these adjustments are handled by the race director.  We understand Ironman events have high overhead costs, but most are "sold out" events.  So we recommend instituting a waiting list. 

We believe allowing refunds, deferrals, or transfers is more customer friendly.  Ultimately instituting such a policy will be good for the customers, good for the sport, and good for Ironman.  Under the current policy, every DNS and empty slot on the bike rack, is a missed opportunity for another triathlete who didn't get in.
